ABOUT AMBER AMARE
BIOGRAPHY
Amber Amare is a DIRECTOR, CINEMATOGRAPHER and SOUND RECORDIST working in the UK. Her credits also include working as ART DIRECTION and SCRIPT SUPERVISOR on both short-form films and feature. Notably, her directorial credits have been shortlisted at AESTHIETICA FILM FESTIVAL 'womb', 'becoming flesh', DARKROOM FILM FESTIVAL 'the interview' and LONDON SCI-FI FILM FESTIVAL 'ten times ten'.
At 26, she has been commissioned by companies such as GOOGLE, KELLYS ICE CREAM, TATE MODERN, NEW LOOK and INTERSEX UK.
Since graduating from PLYMOUTH COLLEGE OF ART in 2017, Amber has been keen to engage local makers in her area to form a wider community of artist and filmmakers.
Locally, she has collaborated with funded groups, artists and institutions such as IMPERFECT ORCHESTRA, PLYMOUTH COLLEGE OF ART, REBEL FILM FESTIVAL and PLYMOUTH PAVILLIONS.
Inclusivity is key to her ethos of video and film and she continues to seek new ways to make filmmaking more accessible. In both 2018/20, she worked for the BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE ACADEMY as a Filmmaking Mentor to entry-level filmmakers in the SouthWest
In 2020 she was promoted to BFI LEAD TUTOR. During her role as a learning coordinator for inhouse production company ONE20 MEDIA, she created ESF funded courses to improve the online presence for female-fronted businesses in the south-west.
In 2020, Amber Co-founded a group 'CINE SISTERS' dedicated to showcasing working woman in Film and TV in the south-west. This adventure into funding individuals through visual practises, has led the group to be commissioned by PLYMOUTH ART WEEKENDER, showcasing work from active members.
Amber is a proud practitioner at BARBICAN THEATRE, leading workshops in movement for film practises.
Her own practice explores and develops themes of womanhood and internal reflection. Using mixed media format from super 8 to ceramics and physical installation, she continues to pursue ways that push the parameters of filmmaking.
